We Build Software That Fits How You Already Work
Lumenai is a software and AI consultancy based in Doha. We build custom applications, automation and AI systems for businesses across Qatar and the wider GCC, and we hand them over so you own what you paid for.
Why we started
Because the same two conversations kept happening. A business had bought software that almost fit, and their team was quietly working around it with spreadsheets. Or they had been sold something impressive that nobody could maintain once the agency moved on.
Both problems come from the same place. Software gets sold before anyone has watched the work actually happen. So the system encodes how someone assumed the business ran, rather than how it does run, and the gap gets papered over by people doing manual work nobody counts.
We start by watching. It is slower at the beginning and it saves a great deal later, because the expensive part of any project is not building the wrong thing quickly. It is discovering that six months in.
How We Work
Six commitments. Every one of them costs us something, which is rather the point.
We Say No
If an existing tool would serve you better than a custom build, or if outbound will not work for your offer, we will tell you before quoting. Turning down work we could have taken is the clearest signal we can give that the advice is real.
Fixed Prices, In Writing
We scope first, then quote a fixed price. If the scope changes later, we quote the change before doing it. Hourly billing puts the risk of a bad estimate on you, and we would rather it sat with us.
You Own It
Code repository, documentation and data transfer to you at launch. We build on mainstream technologies specifically so you can hire someone else to continue the work. Lock-in is a business model, not an engineering outcome.
Weekly, Not Quarterly
You see working software every week on a link you can open any time. No three months of silence followed by a reveal. Feedback goes in while changes are still cheap to make.
Bilingual From Day One
Arabic and English designed in from the start, with genuine right-to-left layouts rather than translated text in a left-to-right design. Retrofitting Arabic later costs more and always looks it.
Built In-House
The people who scope your project are the people who build it. Nothing gets passed to a subcontractor in another timezone who never spoke to you and never saw how your business works.
Some things we believe
These shape what we build and, more often, what we advise against building.
Most problems do not need AI
If the rules are fixed and no judgement is involved, plain automation is cheaper, faster and more predictable. We add AI where a step genuinely requires reading unstructured input or making a call, not because it is expected in the proposal.
Fix the process before automating it
Automating an approval chain with four unnecessary steps gives you a faster bad process. We map the workflow first, and reasonably often the recommendation is to remove steps rather than encode them.
Systems fail on the edges, not the demo
Anything can look good on a curated example. What matters is the messy CV, the caller with a poor line, the invoice in an unexpected format, the customer switching languages mid-sentence. We build and test for those, because that is where production lives.
Qatar is not a smaller version of somewhere else
Cash on delivery changes how retail operations work. WhatsApp is the front door, not a side channel. Qatarisation shapes hiring. WPS and gratuity shape payroll. A playbook imported from another market misses all of it, and the details are exactly where projects come apart.
Who We Work Best With
Being specific about fit saves everyone a wasted conversation.
A good fit
Businesses whose process genuinely does not match any off-the-shelf tool, and who know which part hurts.
Teams growing past the point where per-seat SaaS pricing still makes sense.
Companies where one person can own decisions, because those projects move noticeably faster.
Organisations that want to understand what was built rather than just receive it.
Probably not us
Anyone who needs the cheapest possible quote. We are not it, and there are people who are.
Projects where the brief is a technology rather than a problem, and the technology is not negotiable.
Work that needs to start tomorrow with no scoping, because that is how projects go wrong.
Businesses wanting a vendor to blame later rather than a partner to work through it with.
Where We Work
Doha is our base. Most delivery happens remotely, with in-person sessions where they matter.
Qatar
Doha, Lusail, West Bay, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah and the industrial areas. We meet in person during scoping and at key milestones.
Wider GCC
Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait, where the compliance details differ but the operating realities rhyme.
Working Week
Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 to 18:00 Arabia Standard Time, which means we are available when your team is.
Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask before deciding whether to work with us.
With a free 30-minute call where we map your current process and find where the time or money is actually going. You leave that call with a clear recommendation whether you hire us or not. If it looks like a fit, a fixed written quote follows within 48 hours.
Yes, in both delivery and communication. Systems are built bilingual with proper right-to-left layouts, and meetings, documentation and training can run in Arabic or English depending on what suits your team.
You take everything with you. The code repository, documentation and data are yours, and we build on mainstream technologies so any competent developer can continue. We would consider it a design failure if you could not walk away, which is also why we do not ask for long lock-in contracts.
No. The people who scope your project build it. Context gets lost when work passes between teams, and it usually gets lost in exactly the details that made your requirement unusual in the first place.
No, and that is deliberate. We implement Odoo and ERPNext, we build custom systems, and we deploy self-hosted or cloud depending on what suits you. Because no vendor pays us a margin, the recommendation depends on your situation rather than on which answer earns us more.
We tell you during scoping rather than after invoicing. Sometimes the honest answer is that your volume does not justify the build, or that a subscription you already pay for would do the job. Saying so costs us a project and keeps the relationship, and the second one is worth more.
Start with the problem, not the solution
Tell us what is slowing your team down. We will map it, tell you honestly what is worth building, and follow up with a fixed written quote. If the answer is that you do not need us, you will hear that too.
